Our Quran Program

History

There is a long standing tradition of studying and memorizing The Quran in Medina Baye, Kaolack. Most of the children here attend Quran school long before pursuing their secular studies. American students began studying in Medina Baye under the guidance and efforts of the late Sheikh Hassan Ali Cisse. The AAII Legacy Academy is a direct result of his efforts. This academy operates under the umbrella of the original African American Islamic Institute. It maintains and honors the traditional approach while at the same time incorporating modern features.  

Level I

At this level students will learn how to recognize the Arabic alphabet and vowels and then learn how to read. Students will then be introduced to the Quran by committing to the text to memory starting with the shortest chapters.  At this level students are focusing on committing one fourth of the Quran to memory and achieving a certificate that recognize 

Level II

At this level students are expected to gain proficiency in reading and writing and recitation.  They will have completed instruction of the entire Quran and done a complete memorization of the Quran at least one time but without recited all of it in one sitting.  At this level students will receive Shahadatou Itmaam or certificate of completion giving them the distinction of having completed instruction in reading and reciting Quran.  This signifies they are able to read all chapters of the Quran with accuracy and proficiency. 

Level III

At this level students are expected to gain proficiency in reading and writing and recitation.  They will have done a complete memorization of the Quran at least one time and they will have without recited the Quran in its entirety in front of masters of Quran.  At this level students will receive a Shahadatou Hifz or certificate of memorization giving them the distinction of having completed instruction in reading and reciting Quran and this is witnessed by members of qualified masters of Quran.  This signifies they are able to recite all chapters of the Quran with accuracy and proficiency from memory. 

Level IV

At this level students are expected to gain proficiency in reading and writing and recitation.  They will have done a complete memorization of the Quran at least one time and they will have recited the Quran in its entirety in front of masters of Quran.  At this level students will receive a Shahadatou Itqaan or certificate of mastery giving them the distinction of having completed instruction in reading, reciting and writing the Quran and this is witnessed by members of qualified masters of Quran.  This signifies they are able to read, recite, and write all chapters of the Quran with accuracy and proficiency from memory.
